Building Blocks Developmental Preschool

At Building Blocks I was responsible for supporting the needs of my 1:1 within the 12:1:2 classroom setting. This included toileting, taking them to OT, PT, and Speech, and assisting them in their social and academic growth. As a Teacher's Assistant I was there to assist the teacher and students throughout the class time. During that time I would set up lessons to complete during centers, initiate conversations for the students to interact with one another, as well as assist the students with any academic or social needs.

When the pandemic hit, Building Blocks started Zoom classes and asked the teachers and aides to create Youtube videos to share with the students. My assignment for the two classrooms I worked in were; bedtime stories, sensory activities, and music lessons. I spoke with the teachers to see what lessons would benefit the children and then I would record myself doing it to share with the students. One example is washing your face, children with disabilities often find washing their faces to be torturous, I showed them how it can be done quickly and safely. I walked them through what materials would be needed, the steps to washing the face and rinsing. I posted these videos on Youtube and shared the link to the parents in the class. We received such amazing feedback from the families saying that their children were loving the bedtime stories, learning to try new sensory activities, and how they were singing and dancing with the music lessons. It was a truly beneficial experience for all.

Below you can view some videos that I created to share with my students. I read bedtime stories every night, the parents commented on how their children loved having a teacher read to them to end their days during such unusual times. I also created follow up activities to books read during our Zoom lessons. Weekly I made music videos and sensory videos. These videos were based on things that my students struggled with or didn't enjoy doing. I showed them that sometimes, even if we don't like something or it scares us, we can give it a try just once. It was such a fun way to stay involved in my student's day from afar!
